Some weddings are beautiful. Others have a personality all their own. This celebration at The Meritage Resort in Napa Valley was a little bit of both — effortlessly stylish, wonderfully unexpected, and filled with details that made it unmistakably theirs.
From an oversized Vogue-inspired photo moment to an elegant ceremony surrounded by candlelight, this couple brought a fresh perspective to classic wedding design. The overall look was striking without feeling overdone, pairing timeless elements with a few playful details that made the day especially memorable.
A Ceremony Framed in Candlelight
The ceremony took place indoors, where an aisle lined with candles created the most beautiful atmosphere. White florals and soft white draping framed the altar, allowing the setting to feel romantic, intimate, and thoughtfully composed.
There is something about an abundance of candlelight that changes the entire feeling of a space. It adds warmth, dimension, and a sense of occasion — especially when paired with an all-white floral palette. For this ceremony, the effect was both dramatic and understated.
The bride's lace gloves were another detail I couldn't get enough of. Delicate, fingerless lace sleeves that extended along her arms, they added a beautiful fashion moment to her look. They felt romantic and a little unexpected, perfectly in keeping with the personality of the day.
A Little Vogue, A Lot of Personality
One of my favourite details was the custom photo installation designed to look like a Vogue magazine cover. The couple stepped inside the oversized cover for photographs, creating a playful editorial moment that was every bit as cool as it sounds.
I love when couples incorporate something that feels entirely personal into their wedding design. Not every detail needs to be traditional, and not every photo moment needs to look like everyone else's. This one was memorable, fun, and completely in keeping with the couple's style.
Black, White, and Beautifully Timeless
For the reception, the design shifted into a striking black-and-white palette. A checkered dance floor set the tone, while crisp white florals, black chargers, and layers of candlelight brought the tablescape together.
The contrast was so effective. White flowers kept the look fresh and romantic, while the black accents gave the room a little more definition and edge. And with candles adding that soft, ambient glow throughout the space, the overall effect felt polished without being overly formal.
The celebration also made use of The Meritage Resort's indoor and outdoor spaces, with cocktail hour taking place in a covered outdoor setting. I always love when a wedding allows guests to experience a little of both — an open-air moment to mingle and enjoy the surroundings before moving inside for dinner and dancing.
A Sweet Nod to the Past
And then there was the cake.
A simple heart-shaped cake, with a distinctly vintage feel, was the perfect finishing touch. It brought a little nostalgia into a wedding that otherwise felt decidedly fashion-forward. I loved that it wasn't elaborate or overly decorated. Sometimes the simplest details make the strongest impression.
This wedding was such a wonderful reminder that timeless design doesn't have to mean predictable. A thoughtful white floral palette, beautiful candlelight, a confident black-and-white reception, and a few unexpected details can come together to create something that feels entirely original.
At The Meritage Resort, this couple created a celebration that was equal parts romantic, stylish, and unapologetically cool — and I loved being part of it.
