A Garden Wedding in Full Bloom: A Romantic Celebration at Filoli Gardens

Some weddings have a way of feeling like they've stepped straight out of a dream. This celebration at Filoli Gardens was one of those weddings, filled with unexpected color, romantic details, and flowers that brought the entire setting to life.

From the bride's beautiful blue tulle dress to the dusty lavender linens and lush, colorful floral arrangements, every detail felt thoughtfully considered without ever feeling too formal. It was romantic, whimsical, and full of personality—a wonderful reminder that wedding flowers can be both elegant and wonderfully expressive.

A Garden-Inspired Color Palette with a Twist

The color palette was one of my favorite parts of this wedding. Dusty lavender linens created a soft foundation for the reception, while the flowers introduced a much brighter and more playful mix of color.

Vibrant pinks, sunny yellows, rich purples, and fresh greenery came together in arrangements that felt almost electric in color, yet still beautifully romantic. Rather than keeping everything perfectly coordinated, the combination allowed each shade to stand out while contributing to the overall look.

I love working with color in this way. A softer base can make brighter floral tones feel even more intentional, giving the arrangements room to bring energy and dimension to the design.

Lush Flowers with Natural Movement

For the floral design, the goal was a look that felt abundant, loose, and full of life. The arrangements embraced a garden-inspired aesthetic, with layers of color, interesting textures, and greenery woven throughout.

There is something especially beautiful about flowers that aren't overly structured. Allowing blooms to move naturally and arranging them with a little spontaneity creates a sense of effortless romance. The result feels generous and organic, as though the flowers have simply found their way into the setting.

At Filoli, where the gardens already provide such a beautiful backdrop, this approach felt particularly fitting. The flowers added their own personality without taking away from the surroundings.

A Bride in Blue and an Evening Under the Lights

One of the most memorable details was the bride's blue tulle dress. It was such an unexpected and beautiful choice, adding another layer of color and individuality to the celebration.

As the evening unfolded, the outdoor reception took on an entirely different atmosphere. Twinkle lights suspended above the tables created a soft, glowing canopy, while the dusty lavender linens and colorful flowers brought warmth and romance to the space.

It was the kind of setting that makes you want to linger a little longer—surrounded by beautiful flowers, wonderful company, and the magic of a garden celebration after sunset.

When Color and Romance Come Together

This wedding is a lovely example of how a floral design doesn't have to rely on a muted palette to feel romantic. Bright color, loose arrangements, and unexpected combinations can create something every bit as elegant as a more traditional approach.

For me, the beauty was in the balance: vibrant flowers against soft lavender, natural movement alongside thoughtful styling, and a dreamy outdoor setting brought to life by the glow of twinkle lights.

Filoli Gardens was the perfect backdrop for a celebration that felt personal, expressive, and completely enchanting.

If you're dreaming of wedding flowers that embrace color, texture, and a little bit of whimsy, I'd love to help bring that vision to life.
